Happenings

November 1, 2008
WOW! Is it November 1st already??? I can't believe this year is almost over. It has gone so fast. It's amazing how time flies as we get older isn't it?

I have a fun story for you. Last weekend I was on my way to Oklahoma City. Teresa and I were going shopping, since she had a business trip to New York and had nothing to wear. So, I am halfway to OKC when my brother calls and says, "I just found you a bike". I say, "No way! I'm halfway to OKC!!!" He says, "No, for real, I found you a bike. I'm sitting on it right now!" He goes on to tell me about this bike, it's a 1992 Kawasaki 750 Vulcan cruiser with only 10,000 miles on it. There is nothing wrong with this bike and some neighbors of my parents have it in their garage sale. So, I ask him if they will hold the bike for me since I can't come to look at it right now. They agree to hold the bike for me, as I'm fairly certain I will buy the bike. I've sat on a few of them and think it will be fine. I tell my brother to take some pics and email them to me, as I have my laptop and Ipod with me and will stop somewhere and log on to look at the pics.

I arrive in OKC, meet up with Teresa and we hit the mall.  I've not been anywhere I could log on to look at the pics yet either. My phone rings, it's my brother, saying there's a guy there wanting to buy the bike and he has cash and a trailer wanting to take the bike now. By now, I'm about to have a fit, thinking this one is going to get away! I tell my brother, "just pay for the bike and I'll pay you back when I get home".  He says, "No way. I'm not paying for a bike you haven't even seen!" I'm insisting he just pay for the bike since I can't get there to look at it. Finally we agree to put a deposit on the bike and they will hold it until I get back on Sunday.

I'm so excited! Teresa tells me if I need to go home, to go ahead and go. I tell her this is silly, it would be 8 or 9 tonight when I got there if I left right then. I'll just head home a bit earlier than we had originally planned on Sunday. We were going to go to Affair of the Heart on Sunday. But our main goal was to get her some new clothes for her New York trip, which we did. Found her some really nice outfits and a travelling outfit.

I get home and go take a look at this bike. I love it! Of course! Did you expect anything less? I tell them I will take it but will have to go to the bank. I get all the financial stuff in order and go to get the bike last Tuesday after work. I get on it to ride it over to my parents house around the corner and the bike won't shift out of neutral! WHAT??? My new to me bike is not cooperating???? Well, the sellers are mortified! They just had over a thousand dollars worth of work done on the bike, to replace one little part that was needed to charge the battery. They tell me they will take it back to the dealership and find out what is wrong with it and will let me know.

So, Tuesday or Wednesday the seller calls me and tells me a little spring is broken, that lets the gear shifter do it's thing. The spring costs $4.50 and it will cost $200 something to put it on (YIKES) and will also take a couple of days to get the parts here. So, I will get to pick up my bike sometime this week after it gets all put back together.

This weekend I did get to go pick out all my gear that I will need, like a helmet and a riding jacket. I even managed to get the helmet and matching jacket that I had been eyeballing online for days! I am so excited! I am all ready to ride now. Got my bike, my gear and my endorsement on my driver's license! Now for some good riding weather.

Of course, this weekend was just beautiful too. Hope next weekend is just as good! It has been in the high 70's all weekend.

Here's a pic of my new to me bike and I'll post a pic of me in my gear with the bike soon.

I'm also in the process of editing pictures to get uploaded soon! Buttons too.

The show went well and it was really great seeing everyone that stopped by my booth. I had a great spot even if it was cold! I was right under the air conditioning vent, but at least I was near the doors. Met a lot of new folks and vendors. Had great neighbors too! I am definately planning on doing this show again next fall.

The Benton County newspaper did a really nice write-up about me for the Sunday paper in a special pull-out section on the craft fairs. I got a whole page! and that gawd awful picture I have on my about me page. I've got to put a new picture up soon!

Don't have any plans for any more shows until after the first of the year. Then I am planning on doing Bead Blast in Kansas City. I've not done that one for a couple of years now and think it is time to re-visit this venue. Besides, I'd like to see some friends in the area.

We really need to focus on getting the house finished. It's not looking too good to be in before Christmas like we were hoping. I don't know, I still think we could turn it around and get done. We're just going to have to work really hard on it! ugh

I haven't found a motorcycle yet, but am really looking. I've found a couple that I liked but can't decide if I want a 650cc or 1100cc. So I've been talking to everyone that I can, getting opinions.

I'm going to be getting some pics shot and put some more stuff up on the site soon. There is just never enough time in a day for me.

Here's a little pic of me in my booth at the show.

October 2, 2008

WOW! Has it really been this long since I've updated anything??? Sorry about that. I have a lot to report, anyway.

I started a new job. I transferred to the out patient surgery center and am working full time, which may explain why I've not updated my site in a while. It's been a big adjustment to working full time, 5 days a week. My new job is ok, everyone is very nice. It's just been a huge change for me. I've worked 3 days a week for a long time.  But necessity dictates right now.

I'm also taking the motorcycle rider's safety course this weekend. Whoohoo!! I can't wait! It's been 30 years since I've been the driver on a bike! Then, I'm gonna buy me a bike. I wanna be a biker, baby!!! I'm gonna wear scary black leather and everything, including, yes, a HELMET!! I believe in wearing helmets to protect your brain.  I'm sooo excited about my new adventures.

The house is coming along slowly but surely. We are now doubtful about being in by Christmas, but hoping. Kitchen cabinets are being built and I am still painting things.ugh  Sometimes I think I'm never going to be done painting. Still have the living room, the small bedroom/office and finish up the trim in the laundry room and the doors. Once the cabinets are in, the carpet will be installed. I really think it will come together quite quickly once the cabinets are done and the carpet is layed.

A rep took some of my buttons to a button show, so I will be posting some buttons very soon. Have to get pics taken.

I am also going to have a booth at the Springdale Convention Center, October 17, 18, 2008. That is War Eagle Craft Fair weekend.

I'll try to get some new stuff up soon. Right now, I need to go finish my motorcycle homework. Remember, LOOK TWICE, SAVE A LIFE!  It could be me on that bike!

Thanks for visiting,
Vickie
